Financial aid programs for Purdue University Calumet students falls into two categories: gift
aid, which does not have to be repaid, and self-help aid, which includes
loans (that have to be repaid) and employment. Within these two categories
there are five basic types of aid: grants, scholarships, loans, employment, and partial fee
remission.
Financial Aid Resource Information
Grants
Grants are a form of "gift aid" and require a student to show financial need. The federal government offers Pell Grants to needy undergraduate students, which is the foundation of a student's financial aid package. In addition, the Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grant (SEOG) is another federal grant that is awarded by Purdue University Calumet to further assist needy Pell Grant recipients. The Indiana State Student Assistance Commission (SSACI) offers Higher Education Awards to needy Indiana residents enrolled as full-time students (12 or more credit hours) each year. Non-residents of Indiana should check with their high school counselor or state student aid agency to see if their state has a grant program that will transfer to Purdue University Calumet.

Scholarships
Another form of gift aid, scholarships may require a student to show financial need as well as exhibit academic achievement in order to be eligible. Purdue University Calumet offers several of these scholarships which students may search based on major course of study, scholarship title, Grade Point Average (GPA), and classification by clicking here . Students may also search two national scholarship databases, the first being fastWEB Scholarship Search , which utilizing the Internet World Wide Web as a tool for students to search a database of over 275,000 scholarships. Another internet World Wide Web scholarship database is SRN Express . The SRN Express database lists mostly portable, private-sector, non-need-based aid. A few awards (less than 20%) list financial need as a criterion.. Both of these scholarship search services are FREE to use.
Loans
Loans require repayment, with interest, usually beginning six or nine months after the student graduates or withdraws from school. There are three loan programs available to Purdue University Calumet Students: Perkins Loan, Direct Stafford Loans (subsidized and unsubsidized), and Parent Loan to Undergraduate Students (PLUS). The Perkins Loan is funded by the federal government. Purdue University Calumet awards this loan and also disburses the loan to students. The Direct Stafford Loans and PLUS Loan are awarded and disbursed by Purdue University Calumet.
Employment
Through the Federal Work Study Program, a student can earn money by working on campus during the academic year.
Partial Fee Remission
- children of Vietnam P.O.W.'s or M.I.A.'s;
- children whose parents died or are permanently and totally disabled from disease or
injury incurred in the armed forces;
- children of Indiana law enforcement officers or firemen killed in the line of duty.
